welcome
Your journey to the Persian leopard's world begins here
Dear visitor,
We welcome you at the official website of the Persian Leopard Working Group, or simply PeLeWG. This is a new professional network of specialists working on the Persian leopard (Panthera pardus tulliana) throughout all 12 range countries of Southwest Asia. It was established in March 2023 with a primary focus on the implementation of the 10-year Range-wide Strategy for the Conservation of the Persian Leopard. However, our efforts will not end after 10 years, but will expand to reach as many people and leopard populations as possible.
Southwest Asia is very insufficiently known to the international audience and the Persian leopard is overshadowed by much better known African and Indian leopards. Now the time has come to break the ground, promote large-scale research and conservation efforts, and massively spread a word about this splendid, but globally endangered, big cat and what we strive to do to secure a better life for it.
The main aims of this website are to provide diverse information about the Persian leopard, share our achievements and news on the progress in its research and conservation, and motivate more people to join us in our efforts. We always welcome your opinions and suggestions, and do our best to make this website a platform for active communication rather than a stationary information board.
Enjoy!
